Bible Study - Interim 7 on 2 Feb 12 - Putting God in a Box
In one way or another, have you heard the expression, “Don’t put God in a Box”?? This comment is raised in discussions revolving around what God can and can’t do today as His Good Works through disciples (Christians). I’ve heard this expression many times over the years and it is usually used in a way that is to point out misunderstanding about the character of God. Truth be told, I’ve been hearing this expression more frequently over the past month or two.
Have you ever used this expression? Heard it used in any discussion you’re involved with?
Well, I’m going to inform you all… if you have used this expression that way or heard it used that way… it is all BACKWARDS!
The truth is this – You put YOURSELF in a box. You will never be able to “put” God in a BOX!
Two years ago (or so) I was praying to God about this “expression” because I heard it enough times to think… how does a person actually put God in a box?
What God ministered to me was that the box is actually around “us”! The reason for this is that many in the Body of Christ have taken upon themselves accepted portions FROM the Word of God while not accepting other portions. The cause of this is through man-made doctrine, man-made traditions, man-made rituals, and man-made rules (Matthew 15:9; Ephesians 4:14; Colossians 2:21-23).
Due to this, God is not going to “move” and many have taken this as “putting” God in a Box when they tell people that the reason God don’t move miraculously is because people “have put God in a BOX”. Everything is nice and neat with nothing OUT OF ORDER. Everything is EXACTLY as THEY want their relationship and their service to God… to be.
Well, it’s YOU who can’t move while inside that box, thus God can’t use you, thus the reason nothing BY the Power of God happens in your life. Entire churches are FULL of “boxed in” Christians and God has never moved supernaturally nor freely in these churches.
Q: So what is on the OUTSIDE of the Box?
A: God Himself and all the REST of the Word of God that those who have themselves boxed in, WON’T accept.
EVERYTHING from the Word of God is GOOD! So if there are any portions of the Word of God that a person doesn’t accept through their belief due to a man-made doctrine/tradition/ritual/rule… those parts of the Word of God are STILL good! It’s just that THEY are not allowing this GOODNESS to lead them OUT of the box!
For all the Christians who have placed “themselves” in that Box, understand this truth… God is outside the box with ALL the rest of the Body of Christ who has not put themselves in any box or has come out of the box. While the Christians in the box are saying, “God doesn’t do that anymore, God doesn’t speak to us like that anymore, God doesn’t do miracles anymore, there are no more prophets”… they are correct in a way. God don’t do any of that in ANYONE’S box, thus the reason why they or their church have never experienced God moving in POWER.
He’s outside the box doing what He wants, through WHO He wants… with all those who have no box around themselves!
