Last night we had a vigil at church and during a fellowship period of the all night event, we watched a movie. The movie was titled, “The Ultimate Gift”. Truth be told, I fell in love with Emily. NOTE: there are not really any spoilers concerning this movie, just some character description.

Emily was direct, right to the point, she didn’t hold anything back, she was bold, she spoke the truth, and she said what was on her heart and on her mind. She’d call it as it was and didn’t hide how she felt and laid the facts out. Many would call her a pain in the butt, but not me. I loved Emily the moment I first saw her in the movie as I watched how she observed all that went on around her.

Taking Emily as an example, the truth she spoke, the boldness, the honesty… how would “we” as Christians… actually, let’s drop the title “Christians”. How would we as a man or women of God, because that’s what we are the moment we accept Jesus as our Savior… how would we as a man or women of God be treated if we were as bold, as truthful, and as honest about our faith in Jesus, to others as Emily was so truthful, bold, and honest with those in her life?

I know that Emily is a character played in an amazing way by a child simply following a script. The path that the Lord placed us on, can we call it “like” a script? He knows us, planned for us, and loved us as He brought this world into creation. He knows our weaknesses, our strengths, our personality, and our likes and dislikes because… He put them in us. Yet He still puts us on a path that each and every one of us will walk either in obedience (the easy way) or in disobedience (the hard way) of His will.

Emily was brought to life because a very young actress was obedient to the script, the lines, words, actions, emotions, personality… all nothing but a script and this talented young actress brought Emily to life and she impacted my life.

She got me thinking… how can we, as men and women of God, impact the lives of others if we are obedient to God’s will? Despite the weaknesses, with our strengths, despite our personality, with our likes, and despite our dislikes, just be bold, be truthful, and be honest because the Lord has purpose for us as a total package that we are.

Oh, He’ll make the adjustments that are needed within us as we have gone through life and due to our will, many of our weaknesses lead to rejection, fear, and hurts that bind us and hinder us. Our purpose has not changed and the Lord’s hand is open to take all the hindrances away. This may leave the weakness but the Lord glorifies Himself in our weakness. If we only had strength, then who’s producing the glory? God will produce the glory as we are obedient to His will, through your weakness.

2 Cor 12: 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Emily is a character in a movie but the way the Lord ministered to me using her is a way the Lord can use each and every man, woman, and child of God to shine His light upon the world if we only follow the script. Which is ultimately… is God’s will for our life.
